Love, Love, Love

Le cub's sista' is in town, and we wanted to take her out for brunch. Unfortunately (or fortunately... depends on how you want to look at it), our go-to restaurant, Clementine's closes on Sundays, so the three of us ventured over to Santa Monica to try out a new join le cub had read about. Huckleberry. It was a most excellent decision.

Le cub ordered the highly-praised (on Yelp!) "Poached Eggs Over Veggies," and my fork, naturally, ventured over to his bowl for a taste. WOW. Huckleberry claims to purchase its ingredients from the Farmer's Market in Santa Monica, and boy, you can actually tell! The snap peas, corn and cherry tomatoes that lined the bottom of his dish were delightfully fresh and sweet. And the pesto sauce drizzled upon his poached eggs (and my eggs and prosciutto) was divine.

I ordered the "Green Eggs and Ham". What can I say? I'm a sucker for any/all creative marketing schemes. MMM... Perfectly cooked sunny-side up eggs topped freshly-sliced prosciutto and a homemade english muffin. And on top of all that deliciousness was the pesto-ish sauch and greens. Yum, yummy, yum!!!

Will need to save room for their baked goods the next time I go. *tummy smiling*

Where My Hipsters At?

Last weekend, I brunched with my cousin and his fiance, Marie, at Madame Matisse in hipster-filled Silverlake. Was highly anticipating a meal of their highly-praised (on Yelp!) Eggs Benedict, but when my order arrived, I was sorely disappointed. Marie had ordered the same thing, and she too, was an unhappy camper. Our poached eggs were overly-runny, the english muffins were soggy from the sour-tasting Hollandaise, the rosemary potatoes were poorly seasoned, and well, quite frankly the only things I enjoyed about that sad meal were the coffee and company. Never again.

But ooh. To be fair, service was friendly. And the compliments stop there.

Feel the Need to Feed

...on raw fish.

Dined at Fat Fish with Le Cub in West Hollywood a couple weeks ago. It's my go-to place for rolls... The Fat Ass, Crunchy and Carb-less Cucumber rolls are my favorites. If you want great ambience (as in, you want to be surrounded by fun-loving people), arrive after 8. If you want to dine in solitude, arrive early. The place is dead from 6-7:30. Don't count on this place for quality sashimi. Their raw fish isn't bad, it's just not the very best. Again, come here for well-priced rolls and drinks. I personally can't take my alcohol, but I hear the happy hour here is fab.

And ooh, if you're into massively portioned desserts, you may want to try their banana split. It's FAT.
